Controversy Surrounds CNDH Reelection in Mexico City

Nashieli Hernández, president of the Human Rights Commission of Mexico City, expressed her disagreement with the program presented by Rosario Ibarra, who was reelected by the Senate as president of the CNDH for a second term. In an interview conducted by Grupo Fórmula, Hernández considered that the proposed work plan by Ibarra does not fulfill the necessary functions for the organization. According to Hernández, Ibarra's project shows continuity with the multiple criticisms received during her previous term.

Ibarra's reelection generated divided opinions among ruling and opposition senators, achieving 87 votes, the qualified majority required for a second mandate. In contrast, Nashieli Hernández, who aspired to lead the CNDH, stated that challenges in the protection of human rights still persist and emphasized the importance of working together with the 32 organizations to promote a scenario of hope.

Hernández emphasized the need to continue pointing out failures in the defense of human rights, maintaining constant dialogue, and promoting actions to assist the population in situations of omission. In this regard, she highlighted the importance of mediation and continuous communication to improve the protection of human rights in Mexico.

Ibarra's reelection took place amid criticisms from the opposition and organizations such as Amnesty International, which have pointed out the human rights crisis in Mexico with a high number of disappearances and victims of violence. In this context, the role of the CNDH is fundamental, as various critical voices have highlighted regarding the reelection of Piedra Ibarra.
